Björn Plonka is a doctoral researcher at the KIT BioRobotics Lab (IAR-HCR). Prior to joining KIT, he completed his Master's in Computer Science (specialization in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence) with the High Performance Humanoid Technologies Institute at KIT. During his master's program under the supervision of Prof. Tamim Asfour, he focused on research on affordance region-based, bimanual task learning.
He received his Bachelor's in Mathematics (specialization in computer science) at KIT.

Björn's current research interests include close proximity human-robot interaction in medical interventions. Under the supervision of Prof. Katja Mombaur at the KIT BioRobotics Lab, he is currently investigating the possibilities of deploying humanoid robots with dexterous robotic endeffectors in in hospital environments to execute everyday tasks ranging from applying Band-Aids to small medical procedures like taking blood samples.
