Jan Lau
Jan Lau is a doctoral researcher at the KIT BioRobotics Lab (HCR). Prior to joining KIT, she completed her Master of Applied Science degree (specialization in Biomedical Engineering) with the Human-Centred Robotics and Machine Intelligence (HCRMI) Lab at the University of Waterloo in Canada. Under the supervision of Prof. Katja Mombaur, she developed a novel tutorial and used optimal control as two approaches to improve the interaction between a human and lower-limb robotic exoskeleton, and identified ways on how the work can be applied to the geriatric population. She completed her Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Biomedical Engineering also at the University of Waterloo.
From a human movement and martial arts perspective, Jan's current research focuses on developing a new stability criterion related to system modelling of humanoid bipedal robots and/or robotic lower-limb exoskeletons. Her research interests include human movement, biomechanics, optimal control, stability, humanoid robots, wearable robotics, assistive technologies, and wearable devices acceptance in elderly people.
